Day 8

(6-7-2013)

Lake Como

Hello everyone!

This email will be short, as we didn't do all that much with our day yesterday.
We got up early to sadly leave Cinque Terre and the beautiful farm. For the first time, we had relatively easy travel to Lake Como (only one transfer in which we had to run this time). When we made it to Dervio (the town we're staying in by Lake Como), Beppe (pronounced bep-ay) picked us up at the station and drove us to his house. We have a whole little apartment to ourselves and it is so cute!! It's much bigger than what our place would be like in New York and it even has a little washing machine! It was raining sporadically, so we decided not to cross the lake in the hopes that today would be better. We were feeling very tired of being tourists and just wanted a night of semi normalcy where we could cook our own food, so we decided just to stay in!

We went out into the town to get cappuccinos (of course) and to use the internet, as our apartment doesn't have wi-fi. We then went to a couple different stores to get fruits and vegetables, bread, cheese, and wine. We came back to the apartment and made bruscetta, which was amazing. We then sat on their terrace and drank local wine while we just talked and looked out onto Lake Como (you can see it from their terrace). Serre and Beppe (our hosts) came out and joined us for a bit. They're so nice and we had a really great conversation. For dinner we made pasta with tomato, mozzarella, basil, and garlic, which tasted SO much better than it does back home because the ingredients were so much fresher. We then went to bed to get a good night's sleep in the hopes that today we'd have better weather!

Sorry this email was almost exclusively about food. We pretty much did nothing but eat yesterday.

Oh and the quote in the subject line is something Will stumbled upon when doing research. It means (roughly translated) "the sweetness of doing nothing."  :)

Love you all!
